A phishing scam is targeting the website of Global Payments, an Atlanta-based company that processes credit card transactions for businesses throughout the world.
Discovered on Nov. 10 by the security blog App River, the scam campaign uses e-mails that look like they are from Global Payments, with messages such as “Your account has been blocked due to unusual activity,” followed by a link.
Once users click on the link, they are taken to a rogue site and asked to provide their Global Payments account information in order to fix what they are being told is a problem with their account . It’s a setup, however, to get people to divulge their personal information to those operating the fraudulent site.
App River believes this privacy breach could be especially problematic because many Global Payments accounts handle credit card information for numerous businesses.
